Basic Information



The Lithobates castesbeianus is one of the  the most dangerous invasive species on the world. It has many common names like “Rana Toro”, it is gray, brown or green and slimy. They eat insects and little vertebrates like snakes, fish, birds and other frogs. It is a very big frog, measuring from 10cm to 20cm from the mouth to the anus (without including the legs). Its larvae can measure from 15cm to 18cm  of length. It was intruduced to Colombia as an economic activity. Its taxonomic classification is:
Phylum: Chordata.
Subphylum: Vertebrata.
Class: Anphybia.
Subclass: Lissamphibia.
Order: Anura.
Family: Ranidae.
Genus: Lithobates.
Species: Lithobates catesbeianus.


These frogs are perfect to sell as food due to their impressive size, so some people started to commercialize them.It came from the north-west part from the United States. This species has been reported on 13 countries of South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Guyana, Paraguay, Brasil, Argentina and Uruguay).

  2. The information is complete and is relly interesting, Yes i think the people shoul be able to kill this specie in order to save the others. There is a grammar mistake because role not "rol"
    Also it is really colorful and has many images

  5. The specie should be extincted in Colombia because it is not its habitat. Also, some reserves shouild be created to preservate the specie without harmming others.

  6. for protecting other species, the frog should be exterminated from Colombia because this is no its native environment and because the species wont get extinct because there are native places where they live and wont die either.

  10. The blog is easy and enjoyable to read. I like the photos that are being shown. Most of the information is complete but i dont find where is the information about what the government is doing to control the specie. I think in the section of pictures you could include more because there is only one or you could just delete that part and let the image as the rest.

  13. the way to control it si to end up with the specie because as it is not from Colombia it damages the equilibrium of the environment.

  14. the information was really good and complete, you gave all the necesary and relevant information about the rana toro, also you have really good images.
    the only way to control this specie is to killing it because if not in a futre, probably it will extinct others and this one will take the place of the others.

  19. The way to control this species is to finish with it in Colombia, we can do this by advising people that every time they see one they can kill it, also if there is an special place where this frog concentrate,organizations that protect the environment can go and capture this frogs.

    I think the blog is feel organized, it is very complete as it has all the information ordered, it has plenty of images and even thought there are some spelling mistakes i think it was well done.
